Forum UNESCO-University and Heritage (FUUH) is an UNESCO Project for undertaking activities to protect and safeguard the cultural and natural heritage, through an informal networkof higher education institutions. FUUH is under the joint responsibility of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre and the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), Spain. This internet website is not an official site of UNESCO but a website created and managed by the UPV within the framework of the project FUUH.

Based at our Head Office in East Melbourne, but with the opportunity to interact with many of the large number of sites that the Trust owns and manages, this newly created role will require a commercially astute and self-motivated individual, to drive the commercial side of our business. Reporting to the Commercial Manager, the role is responsible for facilitating the delivery of various commercial projects across the organization with a view to build on the financial sustainability of each business unit.   • CRÉUM- Postdoctoral scholarships 2009-2010
    The Research center in ethics of the University of Montreal (CRÉUM) is pleased to announce, for the academic year 2009-2010, its program of postdoctoral scholarships. The duration of the stay can vary based on the nature of the project, but it cannot exceed an academic year (maximum CAN $ 27,000). The selected postdoctoral scholarship holders will obtain a remuneration of 3,000 $ per month, a job in the premises of the CRÉUM, access to the infrastructures of the University of Montreal (libraries, sport center, etc.), as well as attendance for the organization of material support of the stay. In return, the scholarship holders must commit to carry out their research project within the framework of the activities organized by the Center (Workshops, seminars, conferences and colloquiums). The deadline for the reception of candidacies is 30 April 2009.

  • EU/EDUCATION: Increasing student loans to support access, quality and mobility in EU education
    On 22-23 January, Governments, academia and representatives of the banking sector met in Luxemburg to discuss the role of student loans in promoting access, quality and mobility in EU education and training at an International Policy Conference on Student Lending organised by the European Investment Bank. The cost of attending university varies significantly across Europe and the availability of financial support for access to higher education is not uniform. Participants at the conference shared experience on existing student loan programmes, examined strengths and weaknesses of the systems, and discussed the potential for increased co-operation at EU level. Currently, the European Investment Bank helps to finance student loans in several EU countries and is willing to expand its operations. To increase university attendance and access, providing students with equitable financial support, the European Commission will therefore continue to work with Member States and the European Investment Bank to explore options to facilitate access to support for student lending.

  • Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme announces award winners
    Winners of the 2009 MAB Young Scientists Awards and the Michel Batisse Award for Biosphere Reserve Management have been announced by the Bureau of the International Coordinating Council of UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme, following its meeting February 12 and 13 in Paris.

  • EDEN 2009 Competition on the topic “Tourism and protected areas”
    To insist on the qualities and the diversity of European tourist destinations, to promote those that emphasize by the search of an objective of support of a type tourism that combines economic growth and sustainable development, that is the challenge of the pilot project continued since 2006 by the European Commission that launches its annual call for proposals “EDEN”. Within the framework of this European aid, every year on a community scale the Member States chose a common topic and each participant country designates its distinguished destination.
  • UNESCO Lima seeks international specialists for World Heritage sites
    The UNESCO Lima office, through an agreement with the National Institute of Culture of Peru, is providing technical assistance for the development of heritage site management plans for the Pachacamac archeological complex and the Lines and Geoglyphs of Nasca and Pampas de Jumana. Such assistance requires the expertise of international specialists. The main objective of the work plans is to optimize material and human resources, thereby establishing priorities for halting site deterioration, reviving building and land use techniques, and raising community awareness about the historical and cultural meaning and importance of both sites.

  • Vernacular Architecture Group - Memorial Essay Prize
    In memory of the giants who founded or belonged to the Vernacular Architecture Group in its early days, and prompted by the death of Pauline Fenley, former editor of Vernacular Architecture and a keen promoter of good writing, the Group has established a memorial essay prize. Through this it is hoped to encourage articles from those who have not previously published in national or international journals. A prize of £250 will be awarded annually for the best essay on a subject related to vernacular architecture. The emphasis may be historical, structural, stylistic or archaeological, and the winning essay will be considered for publication in Vernacular Architecture. The essays will be judged by a panel appointed by the committee of the Vernacular Architecture Group, and the judges will be looking for evidence of originality of thought, quality of research, and clarity of expression. The decision of the judges is final, and the Group reserves the right not to award the prize if there are no suitable entries...

  • Clio archeology prize - Site of Tell Feres AL Sharqi (Arab Republic of Syria)
    After having studied for a long time the appearance of one of the first great historical civilizations in Mesopotamia - in the alluvial plain that separated the courses of Tigris and the Euphrates, Jean-Daniel Forest had to leave Iraq, in war since the American invasion in 2003, to relocate the scene of his investigations towards Northeast Syria. The objective was to rebuild, in this northern part of the fertile zone of the Near east, the process that witnessed the transition between the simple farmer communities of the first half of the 5th millenium B.C. (corresponding to the culture called “North Obeid”) and the already existing urban society at the beginning of the 3rd millenium (such culture “Ninive 5”). With his colleague from CNRSR. Vallet, searched for, after 2004, a place susceptible to provide information that allowed to respond to the problem thus posed.
  • Second call of the Jean-Paul L'Allier Heritage Prize. Deadline for the reception of the candidacies: April 30, 2009
    This prize is awarded every second year by the Organization of World Heritage Cities to a city that is a member of the OWHC and that has distinguished itself by its achievements in the conservation, enhancement or management of property inscribed on the World Heritage List, and located on its territory. A city that is a member in good standing of the Organization of World Heritage Cities and that has been so for the three preceding years may submit its candidacy to be awarded the Jean-Paul L’Allier Heritage Prize.

  • “Expand your horizon” - Launching of the European prize of young journalists 2009! Deadline: 31 March 2009
    The General directorate of the enlargement of the Commission, in co-operation with the association European Youth Press and Café Babel, launched the European Prize for young journalists 2009, a Pan-European aid. This year, Europe celebrates the 20th anniversary of the dismantling of the Iron Curtain and the 5th anniversary of the adhesion to the EU of eight countries from Central and Eastern Europe, as well as Malta and Cyprus. These anniversaries represent a singular occasion to encourage candidate journalists or professional journalists from all over Europe to reflect and to express their opinions on the expansion of the European Union.
