Winners
of the Clio Prize of archaeology 2007 3rd prize: The site of Ermant
in the High Egypt
This team comes essentially from the University of Montpellier III
and is gathered around Christophe Thiers, egyptologist of the CNRS,
who undertook the systematic excavation of the site Ermant, former
headquarters of the governor of the fourth region before Tebas achieved
its supremacy. The ancient ptolemaic Hermonthis, whose name meant
"the Heliopolis of Montou" underwent an evolution comparable
to the neighboring site Tôd, started under the 11th dynasty,
at the time of Montouhotep II, soon followed by Sesostris I, Thoutmosis
III and Amenophis III, until the site found at the greco-roman time
all its importance before Tebas, at that time decayed of its glory…

University
of Barcelona - Postgraduate Programmes 2008- 09
After creating the Cultural Management master program in 1989,
the University of Barcelona´s educational offer has been enlarged
during the past years to meet new demands. Thus, the Post- Graduate
Program in Cultural Management and Policies enables the participation
of experienced professionals from Spain and Latin America. The Post-Graduate
Program in International Cooperation and Cultural Management has
become an important platform of exchange and cooperation between
cultural managers and institutions from both sides of the Atlantic
Ocean. The Post-Graduate Program in Cultural Tourism bridges the
tourism world with both heritage and art projects. Lately, the Post-Graduate
Program in Show Production and Management, carried out in collaboration
with the Theatre Institute in Barcelona and the Romea Foundation,
addresses to new show managers. Success in these training activities,
added to increasing possibilities of new technologies, led the Directing
Team to offer a couple of these courses through the Internet. Thus, the
Master in Cultural Management can also be completely attended online,
and the Post-Graduate Diplomas in Cultural Tourism, Cultural Management
and Policies, and International Cooperation and Cultural Management
are half presential.

Erasmus
Mundus: more than 2,000 Master's students to receive scholarships
According to the communication published by the European Commission
end of May, more than 2,000 students and 450 teaching staff from
outside Europe have been selected to receive an Erasmus Mundus scholarship
for the academic year 2008/09. These scholarships will allow them
to study in Europe for one or two years and obtain a Master's degree
from one of the 103 top-quality Erasmus Mundus Masters Courses offered
by consortia of European higher education institutions. In 2008,
a total number of 17 new partnerships of Erasmus Mundus Masters
Consortia with higher education institutions in non-European countries
were selected. Altogether, they encompass 62 universities from 28
different third countries. The second phase of Erasmus Mundus (2009-13)
is expected to start in 2009 with a planned total budget of 950
million euros. Its main new features are the inclusion of joint
doctoral programmes, increased scholarships for European students
and an intensified structural cooperation with third-country higher
education institutions. In addition, the new proposal integrates
a mobility scheme for all levels of higher education. One of the
characteristic features of the Erasmus Mundus programme is that
student grantees follow their courses in at least two universities
located in different European countries. This gives them the additional
opportunity to learn about European cultures, languages and academic
systems.
