| Acceptance
by Saudi Arabia of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible
Cultural Heritage (Paris, 17 October 2003)
On 10 January 2008, Saudi Arabia deposited with the Director-General
its instrument of acceptance of the Convention for the Safeguarding
of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. The instrument contained the
following declaration: “I announce under this document
on the accession of Saudi Arabia and the acceptance of the International
Convention of the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage
and its commitment to implement its items without any association
of the provisions of paragraph (1) of Article (26) of this convention”
[Original: Arabic, with official translation in English provided
by Saudi Arabia]. In accordance with the terms of its Article 34,
the aforementioned Convention will enter into force with respect
to Saudi Arabia three months after the date of the deposit of its
instrument, that is to say on 10 April 2008.

Accession
by Benin to the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the
Diversity of Cultural Expressions (Paris, 20 October 2005)
On 20 December 2007, Benin deposited with the Director-General
its instrument of accession to the Convention on the Protection
and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions. In accordance
with the terms of its Article 29, the aforementioned Convention
will enter into force with respect to Benin three months after the
date of the deposit of its instrument, that is to say on 20 March
2008.

Sensitization
on the Conservation for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural
Heritage in Swaziland. Celebrating Mother Lenguages
Actions included support for the organization of national Swazi
Celebrations on the occasion of the Mother Tongue Day in 2006. This
activity led to support for the development of a policy framework
for the enhanced utilization of Siswati language in the education
and other systems in Swaziland. UNESCO National Commission for Swaziland
co-ordinated all efforts in the two initiatives.

Conventions in the field of Culture ratified in Central Asia
This is a report made by the Cluster Office of UNESCO in Almaty
on the activities carried out by its constituent countries (Kazakhstan,
