The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) presents Human/Nature:
Artists Respond to a Changing Planet, opening August 17, 2008, at
the Museum’s downtown Joan and Irwin Jacobs Building and 1001
Kettner galleries. Organized by the Museum of Contemporary Art San
Diego and the University of California, Berkeley Art Museum and
Pacific Film Archive (BAM/PFA), in partnership with the international
conservation organization Rare, Human/Nature is a pioneering artist
residency and collaborative exhibition project that, for the first
time on this scale, uses contemporary art to investigate the relationships
between fragile natural environments and the human communities that
depend upon them.

Strengthening
the automation of cultural heritage archives

Model for World Heritage Cities - Cartagena de Indias (Colombia),

concerned about fire damage at Italy’s Castello di Moncalieri,
a royal residence on World Heritage List
The Director-General of UNESCO, Koïchiro Matsuura, today
voiced concern about damage caused to the Castello di Moncalieri,
in the Italian Province of Turin, inscribed on UNESCO’s World
Heritage List in 1997. A fire broke out on 5 April causing severe
damage to the royal apartments and to several floors in one of the
watchtowers of the building, a former residence of the House of
Savoy...

Landscapes
and tourism promotion: the Val de Loire – UNESCO World Heritage
site
Thursday 17 April 2008 at 18:30 in the Maison de l’Architecture,
des Territoires et du Paysage (Angers). Dominique Tremblay, Director
of the Val de Loire Mission since May 2002, will give a presentation
on promoting and conserving the living cultural landscapes of the
Val de Loire World Heritage site, and the initiatives in this area
carried out by the Val de Loire and the local authorities associated
with it.

Castello
di Moncalieri, one of the Residences of the Royal House of Savoy
UNESCO World Heritage site, severely damaged by fire
In the morning of 5 April, a fire at the Castello di Moncalieri
one of the Residences of the Royal House of Savoy (Province of Turin)
inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1997, caused severe
damage to several floors of one of the watchtowers including Royal
apartments. The Director of UNESCO's World Heritage Centre, Francesco
Bandarin, today expressed his concern about the damage caused in
one of the watchtowers of the Castello di Moncalieri. "I am
deeply saddened by the loss of important part of this Royal Residence"
he said. "It is however a relief that the fire brigades have
been able to prevent even greater destruction."

Director-General expresses regret over destruction by fire of historical
Québec landmark
The Director-General of UNESCO, Koïchiro Matsuura, today expressed
his deep regret at the destruction of Québec’s ancient
drill hall, a landmark adjacent to the Historic District of Old
Québec, which was inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage
List in 1985. “I deeply regret the destruction of this
important landmark,” said the Director-General. “It
is particularly sad that this proud testimony of Québec’s
history was so severely damaged on the eve of the celebration of
the 400th anniversary of the founding of Québec City.”

Natural
heritage experts review protected areas in Congo Basin to identify
those suitable for World Heritage inscription
As part of the ‘Initiative for World Heritage Forests in Central
Africa' , UNESCO's World Heritage Centre organized an expert workshop
on March 13-14 in Brazzaville (Congo) to identify the most outstanding
protected areas in the Congo Basin and to study their complementarity
with sites in the region already inscribed on the World Heritage
List.

Colloquium
3 April 2008: Loire Identity
This colloquium has been organised by students on the Master 2 “Local
Management of Cultural Heritage” course at the University
of Orleans and will take place on Thursday 3 April 2008 from 9:00
to 18:00 in the Jousse Lecture Theatre (Sully Wing). The colloquium
will be introduced by Dominique Tremblay, Director of the Val de
Loire Mission. Other contributions will follow in the course of
the morning. During the afternoon, a film projection will provide
subjects for discussion in a Round Table that will bring together
key players in the Val de Loire.

The French World Heritage Properties Association was officially
created on 27 September in Le Puy-en-Velay on the occasion of the
fifth meeting of French World Heritage sites organised by the town

In the course of a field-study carried out between 11 and 15 February
2008, IMACOF students from the François Rabelais University
in Tours had an opportunity to examine more closely the question

VITOUR
prepares its future
The World Heritage vineyards will meet in Austria in March and in
Tours in May to decide upon their next project for cooperation.
The European World Heritage Vineyards Network (VITOUR project) will
be meeting at Rust in Austria, on 26 - 27 March to decide together
upon the directions to be taken by the new European Cooperation
Project focused on preservation of exceptional wine-growing landscapes
and creation of wine-tourism on a European scale...
