An
interview with... Alexander Otte, Project Coordinator, History of
Water and Civilization Project
"... UNESCO’s mandate opens an unusually large horizon
of challenges and opportunities for constant learning. Obviously,
it is very rewarding to encounter people of many different backgrounds,
disciplines, and cultures, and to work on joint projects. And being
able to contribute in your job to the UN principles, more peaceful
and equitable, sustainable and ethically sound development, is very
satisfying."

ENCATC
EXPERT MEETING: “Towards a European GLOSSARY for cultural
management”. Brussels, 12 December 2007
International cultural cooperation communication is difficult because
although people speak a foreign language, they do not know the specific
terms for cultural work/management. A glossary facilitates communication
and makes professional interchange possible. Glossaries for other
fields (f. ex. economy) already exist, but one for cultural work/management
is still crucially missing. This initiative could greatly facilitate
the linguistic part of the international cooperation, save time
when looking for terms, provide specific terminology, support professional
work and discuss on a high level. In 2006, ENCATC has already introduced
a project proposal to the European Commission (University of Potsdam,
University of Barcelona, University of Bordeaux and City London
University) and to the Slovak Ministry of Culture.

“Investing
in Knowledge: Investing in the Future”: focus of World Science
Forum in Budapest
How can we make sure scientific knowledge continues to drive development
in our societies? How can the need to invest in the sciences be
brought to the attention of governments? What measures must be taken
to give new generations of scientists the means to face future challenges?
These are some of the questions that will be raised during the World
Science Forum held from 8 to 10 November in Budapest (Hungary),
around the theme of “Investing in Knowledge: Investing in
the Future”. Organized by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences
in cooperation with UNESCO and the International Council for Science
(ICSU), the Forum coincides with World Science Day for Peace and
Development, celebrated every 10 November at the instigation of
UNESCO.
