Managing
World Heritage Sites Autor Anna Leask, Alan Fyall
World Heritage Sites are some of the most recognised locations around
the world. They include natural sites such as the Grand Canyon and
the Great Barrier and cultural ones such as the Pyramids at Giza,
the Walled City of Baku in Azerbaijan and the Historic Centre of Riga
in Latvia. The responsibility to manage them successfully and ensure
that the resources are not damaged by visitors, war or environment
is therefore vital. Managing World Heritage Sites covers the management
issues encountered at cultural and natural UNESCO World Heritage Sites).

Tragic
accident at Kilwa Kisiwani World Heritage site
The UNESCO World Heritage Centre sends its condolences to the family,
friends and colleagues of Ruzna Amli, a young Tanzanian woman from
Songo Mnara, who had worked with the UNESCO restoration project
of the Kilwa Kisiwani and Songo Mnara Ruins, a World Heritage Site
in Tanzania. The young mother of three died of the consequences
of a tragic accident during the restoration works. We deeply regret
that all medical, personal and financial efforts undertaken by the
people around her could not help save Ms Amli's life. Our thoughts
are with her family and friends in this moment of grief.
